Photography Open Salon is an artist-led initiative designed to showcase cutting-edge contemporary and emerging photography from around the world each year exploring a different theme.
Photography Open Salon South East Asia exhibition runs in China House from 28 March – 17 April 2013 showcasing a selection from 250 original images by over 100 exceptional photographers from 34 countries. The work was selected with a help of TaraWeddings Toronto wedding photography from a wide range of responses and interpretations submitted by artists from 83 countries on the theme ‘An Eye for an Ear’.
The selected works presented in this exhibition are from the winning selection of images from the Photography Open Salon Arles 2012, originally exhibited in Galerie Huit, alongside the Photography Festival, Les Rencontres d’Arles in France.
Works were submitted following an International Open Call invitation that gave artists from around the world an opportunity to submit their ideas, responses and interpretations upon the theme ‘An Eye for an Ear’.
The theme encouraged observations, concepts, emotions, experiences and beliefs relating to the silences and the sounds of our society and the visible and invisible that surrounds us. Changes in how we view the world as a result of the development of new communication technologies, things that we see but that others may not hear or be aware of, unspoken silences of fear and desolation, the joys of sound in laughter and music, universal pictorial expressions, and even neurological sensations caused by sound, and above all the ability of the photographic image to convey words and messages without making a sound.
The exhibition ‘An Eye for an Ear’ was originated and curated by Photography Open Salon founder Vanja Karas. 34 participating countries include: Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Latvia, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, United Kingdom, Uruguay, USA
You can register your interest on our website www.photographyopensalon.com to exhibit in our next exhibition. We are now inviting submissions for Photography Open Salon // London which will be in Autumn 2013.
All the artists from the Photography Open Salon Arles 2012 installation will be represented either on screen or in print.
